State of the Art Affordable Housing Now Ready

New Ing Mill, a former Batley woollen mill which once provided work to thousands has been redeveloped into 31 low cost affordable homes in a £600,000 state-of-the-art makeover.

Award winning San Pedro Properties, which has a track record of bringing historic buildings into the 21st century by installing the latest green and carbon neutral technologies, is working with Kirklees based Fusion Housing to ensure that the one and two bedroomed apartments go to those with the greatest need.

Said Andrew Mear, md of SPP: “This development is very close to my heart as the mill was one of the earliest properties purchased by my father, John Mear, who set up the family business 40 years ago. He had a vision to convert the early nineteenth century mill into apartments but saw it as financially onerous 32 years ago. When the opportunity came along to provide low cost rented properties and fill a gap in the market, we grasped it. It is incredibly rewarding to finally bring that dream to fruition.

“In addition to investing in the latest green technology efficiencies, we have installed a £250,000 carbon neutral biomass boiler system which will provide heating and hot water for the whole building, meaning each apartment will cost just £30 a month to run.”

Fusion Housing, which has successfully managed half the mill’s apartments released in 2015, has now taken over management of the entire mill’s flats, which opens April 1st.
A housing charity that assists those with housing related problems, it offers legal advice, an employment and learning service, floating support for single people and single parents, a bond guarantee scheme, resettlement into the community scheme for ex-offenders and a refuge service. It also has a managed tenancy scheme which offers low level supported and furnished accommodation.

Said Andrea Conboy of Fusion Housing: “We have been working with Andrew for three years and he genuinely wants to make a difference for people who have not had the best start in life. Having a safe, warm, affordable, stable home can help people get their lives back on track and succeed with future goals.”
