High Corn Mill Owner Scoops Regional Award

High Corn Mill owner and West Yorkshire property entrepreneur, Andrew Mear, has scooped a regional ‘Green Business of the Year’ award.
San Pedro Properties, which is run by Andrew Mear and his two brothers, has been developing outstanding ‘green’ properties for 17 years. The company has consistently gone beyond all legal requirements to bring buildings of historical significance into the 21st century, not only in terms of design, but also through embracing green technologies which minimise environmental impact and reduce energy bills.
Said Andrew Mear: “The award has been a wonderful endorsement of the innovative work we have done to preserve buildings of historic significance, whilst consistently ensuring that our working practices are as ecological and sustainable as possible.”
Set up in 2000, the family business has grown to incorporate over 100 residential, commercial and industrial tenants in 25 properties across North and West Yorkshire.
All San Pedro properties are buildings of important historical significance which have been redeveloped to ensure existing infrastructures and exterior aesthetics are maintained. Consistent and significant investment in the latest green renewable technologies ensures that the company is as carbon neutral as current technologies will allow.
The blueprint for its successful green business model was the redevelopment of Skipton’s High Corn Mill. Key to re-developing this 12th century corn mill into a thriving mix of retail and office accommodation, was the adaption of the historic hydroelectric system (waterwheel) to power the new building, business and retail units and surrounding houses – with any residual going to the grid.
The Green Business of the Year award was made by the Halifax Courier at a presentation dinner on December 1st.
